(a) In general From amounts appropriated under section
9882 of this title, the Secretary shall award a grant
(1) for each of the
school years 20072008 through 20102011, to each of the 3 elementary schools, and each of the 3 secondary schools, each of which has a high concentration of low income students as defined in section
6537 (2) of this title, in each State whose students demonstrate the most improvement in mathematics, as measured by the improvement in the students average score on the States assessments in mathematics for the
school year for which the grant is awarded, as compared to the
school year preceding the
school year for which the grant is awarded; and
(2) for each of the
school years 20082009 through 20102011, to each of the 3 elementary schools, and each of the 3 secondary schools, each of which has a high concentration of low income students as defined in section
6537 (2) of this title, in each State whose students demonstrate the most improvement in science, as measured by the improvement in the students average score on the States assessments in science for the
school year for which the grant is awarded, as compared to the
school year preceding the
school year for which the grant is awarded.
